Can I transfer any local number to my carrier?

The answer that that question is “legally” YES. Every number in the USA is considered “portable” meaning it can be moved anywhere. Cell numbers can become land line numbers and the reverse is true. In reality however, some companies are simply unable or unwilling to take over a customers existing number. In many cases it’s simply someone at the company not willing to make the effort to do the transfer. We tell clients that get numbers from us to first check with their local carrier that the number can be taken over. In some cases where the client was first told no, they have called back and gotten a yes. We have only see a refusal in about 10% of the transfers. Almost every carrier, especially Mobile and VOIP carriers can move numbers. Even AT&T and Sprint say yes in most cases.
